Toyota Hilux owners can now enjoy extra braking performance thanks to Bendix’s new Ultimate 4WD™ Electric Park Brake (EPB) with Drum-to-Disc conversion kit. Locally designed and engineered for demanding Australian conditions and applications, the kit which is available for popular 4x4 N80 models (2015-onwards), takes Hilux’s braking to a whole new level, both on and off the road.

Why upgrade Hilux 4x4 N80 brakes?

There are many great reasons to invest in this new Bendix kit, whether for work or play:

  • The EPB component of the kit provides vastly improved hill holding ability even when towing a heavy caravan or trailer, reducing the chance of ‘roll aways’.
  • It features ‘Auto-on’ functionality allowing the EPB to engage automatically under certain operating conditions for improved convenience and safety, such as when a cabin door is open, or when the vehicle is placed in park etc.
  • Interior cabin fitment is neat, with an OE-style button to manually engage / disengage the EPB.
  • The kit delivers significant overall braking improvement thanks to the added stopping power of rear disc brakes with the Drum-to-Disc conversion.
  • It’s a convenient and comprehensive all-in-one kit – everything that’s needed is included.

How does the kit work?

The EPB’s extra holding power comes from rear left and right single piston calipers that act on the rear disc brake rotors; it’s a ‘bolt-on’ fitment that complements the Hilux’s existing hand brake with no change to the vehicle’s hydraulic mechanism, pad shape and original park brake needed.

Along with the benefits of the EPB, the overall kit delivers general braking improvements compared to the OE drum brake set-up, thanks to the included 312mm diameter Disc Brake Rotors which are provided as part of the Drum-to-Disc conversion.

  • Two Brake Rotors – in a choice of either plain faced or ‘X-slotted’.
  • An electric park brake control module and control switch.

  • Mounting brackets.
  • Bendix Ultimate 4WD™ Brake Hoses.

Is ADR compliance needed?

Although fitting Bendix’s Ultimate 4WD™ Upgraded Electronic Park Brake & Drum to Disc Conversion is a straightforward job for a mechanic or brake technician following the kit’s included installation guidelines, given the nature of the Disc-to-Drum aspect of the conversion, engineering signoff will be needed for the upgrade at completion.

Is the kit easy to service and maintain?

The kit features a ‘service mode’ to wind back the EPB to allow for easy brake pad change. It’s also self-adjusting, meaning the Hilux will spend less time in the workshop and more time out on the tracks.

Ultimate 4WD™ EPB with Drum-to-Disc Conversion Legal Requirements

NSW, VIC ,TAS and SA

All require engineering sign off once installed. Sign off engineers will require a copy of the ADR35/05 test report before or during inspection, report provided by Bendix.

QLD and WA

LG1 codes achieved and registered with state registration authorities. LG1 codes available on request or via the preferred installer portal.

NT

No engineering sign-off required, however your vehicle will need to be inspected by the NT MVR.

New Zealand

  • The New Zealand registration authority (NZTA) recognises ADR master reports for vehicles that are to be used on New Zealand roads.
  • The compliance process is similar to VIC, NSW, SA and TAS, so a vehicle that’s fitted with either front or rear (or both) Ultimate Big Brake Upgrade Kits will require a Low Volume Vehicle Certification (LVVC).
  • Once fitted, the installer will need to contact the Low Volume Vehicle Technical Association (LVVTA) to have the vehicle inspected by an independent certifier before a plate is applied to the vehicle. The certifier will apply to the LVVTA on behalf of the fitter/vehicle owner to have the vehicle plated, which will allow the vehicle to gain a Warranty of Fitness going forward.
  • LVVC inspectors can be found at https://www.lvvta.org.nz/conta...
